AI noise removal vs classic noise reduction

How do I remove background noise from audio for free?

What kinds of background noise can it remove?
Fan and air-conditioner hum, traffic, wind, electrical hum and hiss, background chatter, keyboard typing and other sounds behind a voice. It is made for speech, so it also turns down music playing behind someone talking. It is not meant for cleaning music recordings.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
Not by the free tool. Clean Audio downloads its noise model to your browser once and cleans the file on your own device. Only if you choose Studio is the audio sent to our cloud for that one job, and the upload is deleted within a day.
Which file formats are supported?
Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus. Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV. You can download clean audio as MP3 or WAV, and videos come back as MP4 (or WebM for WebM files).
Is there a length or size limit?
Files up to 30 minutes and 2 GB can be cleaned in the browser. The first time you use the tool it downloads a 12 MB noise model, which your browser keeps for later visits. Longer files work best on a laptop or desktop.
Can I remove background noise from a video?
Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV or WebM file and choose Download video. The picture is copied as it is and only the sound track is replaced, so the video quality does not change. See the video noise remover page for details.
Will my voice sound robotic?
The tool suggests a strength for each recording. Very noisy files get full noise reduction; cleaner recordings get a lighter setting, because removing every last bit of room tone can make a voice sound thin. Move the slider and switch between Original and Cleaned to choose.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in current Safari, Chrome and Firefox on phones and tablets. Phones have less memory than computers, so for recordings longer than about 10 minutes a laptop or desktop is more reliable.
Is it really free?
Yes. Cleaning in your browser is free with no daily limit. For very noisy recordings there is also Studio, an optional cloud mode with a larger model, billed per minute. Signed-in accounts get 2 free Studio minutes each day they use it.
